Life in Paridon was hard for you. Your father Elsian, an elf from Sithicus, met your human mother Cassandra during one of his trips to Paridon for trade. Though he planned to stay by her side and raise you, he needed to travel back and forth for work, and on one of these trips his ship was attacked by some great beast, and unfortunately he was not among the few survivors. Raised by your mother, who had the pleasure of seeing you mature quickly as she aged in her short human years, you became a devout follower of The Morninglord, the god of Sun and Hope, who gave all those with good hearts a reason to wake and a reason to work. As your mother passed, you channeled your love for her into a love for all, and began studying Medicine at the University of Paridon under a skilled physician, [[:dr.-niles-patterson]]. Interning at his clinic in Southshore, you discovered early on that he was a kinder man than most, secretly catering to the deformed and malnourished residents of the tunnels that lay beneath the city. You keep this secret of loyalty to your teacher, who made you into the skilled and loving doctor you are today, able to give healing to both the body and soul of your patients. One day, in the summer of your 24th year, a Caliban woman arrived in the clinic, her body beaten and cut. You rushed her into a treatment room, praying for your god’s help and trying to treat her wounds with your skills as a doctor, but to no avail. She could not be saved, but the baby inside her could be. Performing the emergency surgery, the healthy—and surprisingly human— baby was safely delivered, and as she opened her eyes, you knew this child needed a good mother. You named her Nilly (after your teacher Niles), you loved her and raised her as your own. She became your little helper around the clinic at the age of ten, and was quickly known around Southshore and loved for her innocence and loving demeanor. She even planned to follow in your footsteps and study medicine. But all the love and innocence in the world could not save her from what happened in the winter of her 11th year.
As you made your way home to your small apartment in Southshore one night, a Caliban friend and former patient, James, rushed towards you, screaming about a man on the roof. He explained, breathless, that he has seen a strange man on your roof, and he tried to get into the house to protect Nilly (who had stayed home that day to study), but he could not break the door. You both ran to your home and quickly unlocked the door, but by that time all that was left was scattered firewood, a few drops of blood, and ashy bootprints. James explained the rumors of the kidnappings going on, and as you broke down crying, he said, “I don’t think she’s dead, this isn’t much blood; I think I know someone who can help.” He then handed you a small card with the name Rozalina on it, a Vistani woman who ran a local seer’s shop.
